Paper Plate Flowers

We attached color paper petals to paper plates to create our flowers. Tempra paint was used on the plates to match the petals. We will be putting our pictures in the middle of each flower and using them to decorate our school room.

April Planting

This month we were able to put in some sugar snap pea and sunflower seeds into our backyard children's planter. Our sugar snap peas are fast to sprout and should be the first vegtable that our students will get to enjoy.

Seed Sorting

Our little gardeners learned that seeds come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Each student was given a cup with mixed seeds to practice sorting by type of seed. They also learned what type of vegtable or fruit grows from each seed.

Window Garden

Re-using sandwich bags as mini-green houses, we are watching a variety of beans grow roots and begin to sprout. Each bag is lined with a damp paper towl to keep the beans moist and watered.

Planting Easter Grass

We used strawbery baskets from last season lined with left over newspaper to hold int he soil. We filled our baskets with dirt and topped them with grass seed. In 2 weeks our baskets will be full of grass and ready to hold our Easter treats!

Butterflies!

Our caterpillars have made their change! Here is a picture of our first little friend to emerge. More keep poping out each time we look. It will be fun to let them all fly away in the next few days. The butterfly pictured here is a painted lady butterfly.

Bug Buns

We made a but snacking using bread dough, pretzels, and rainsins. Roll the dough into a ball, stick pretzel legs into side of the ball, add rasin eyes to the top. Bake dough as directed.

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar"

Here is what our "Very Hungry Caterpillar" theme basket looks like. Students created the caterpillars to use as props for acting out the story. We also have a few copies of the board book and felt fruit for the caterpillars to eat.

Food on our Plate

To prepare for "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" story, we talked about healthy food we eat to help us grow. Students were able to choose from an assortment of grocery ad 'foods' to put on their own healthy plate. Later in the week our caterpillars will eat through the some of the foods on our plates as we act out "They Very Hungry Caterpillar".

Painting Caterpillars

We used cut up pieces of egg crate to make our caterpillar bodies. After poking holes in the head and attaching pipe cleaners to make antenna, we were able to paint the bodies using green pain. Later we are gong to use these creations to act out the story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".

Bug Parts

We learned to name some parts of the insects we are learning about. Today we made our own bugs out of construction paper pieces and then put labels on the parts we knew.
